“Today, sailing is an opportunity to discover, explore, and create connections between people and the elements.”

Aloha!

I am Captain David!

My 34 foot Sailboat RUNNING SILENT is located at the Ala Wai Boat Harbor, on the west or Ewa side of Waikiki. That is walking distance from most Waikiki hotels and just a few hundred yards from the Hilton Hawaiian Village and Ilikai Resort Lagoon.

There is plenty of seating onboard so it is perfect for families and groups up to six who want to enjoy a private sailing experience together. The boat is not as wide as a catamaran but very stable and built for cruising.  In addition to sails, she also has an electric motor, so is very quiet, exhaust free, and Eco-friendly : ) There is a head (bathroom) onboard.

I have a favorite sailing playlist, but you can also "DJ" or make requests : )

Departure time for sunset tours is flexible (it is your private tour!), but I recommend we start our sail at least 45 minutes before sunset.

The trade winds generally ease up in the evening, which makes for pleasant sailing weather. The temperature will also drop after sunset, so I recommend bringing a light jacket.

If a beer or glass of wine helps you start to unwind, then feel free to BYOB.  I can provide a cooler if you need one. I would not recommend this tour if you are looking for a "Booze Cruise", out of concern for your safety and the safety of your fellow passengers.  While there is plenty of seating and room to move around, gusts of wind and wakes (waves) from other boats can rock the boat.  These are not a problem when you are sober and seated or holding on properly.

Cinnamons at The Ilikai, The Chart House Restaurant, and Harbor Pub are close by and great places to have a drink or meal before or after our Sail.

For day sails bring sunscreen or long sleeves to provide sun protection. Day sail departure time is also flexible. We can cruise by a popular turtle watching area if conditions and weather allow. They can also pop up just about anywhere!

Humpback whales visit the islands seasonally from November to April.

Spinner dolphins can frequently be seen close to shore in the morning all year around.

I would love to share some sailing theory and stories with you. You can even take a turn at the helm (steering wheel) once you understand some basics and conditions allow.

I have spent over 20 years working on and under the ocean around the Hawaiian Islands and have been a USCG licensed Captain for over 15 years. Some of my jobs included: snorkel and SCUBA instructor, Atlantis Submarine Copilot / Narrator, Captain for dolphin, whale, and shark cage tours (not all at the same time : )

About your Captain

I have worked on and under the waters around Hawaii for over 20 years as a snorkeling, SCUBA, freediving guide and Captain, taking people to experience all that O’ahu has to offer. From humpback whale watching to diving with sharks beneath the waves, your safety, and respect for the environment, are paramount in every tour. Sailing gives us a chance to dance between the elements...to discover the harmony between the tiller, sails, wind, and water... to become that crucial element that keeps the tiller steady and the sails and smiles full...

Full sails. Full smiles.

That is our destination. Come join us for the Journey.
